Clara Bastian
After Clara Bastian completed the Willem de Kooning art academy, she obtained the propaedeutics Biology, a study that matched her fascination with anatomy. Bastian's work consists of both commissioned portraits as free work. She mainly paints in a realistic style. Often she reproduces the texture, light and shadows so well, that her art seems more realistic than the photo. For her paintings she uses oil paint, because with this type of paint (which stays wet for a long time) she can continue working and perfect her work. The subjects she likes to paint are expressions, emotions and feelings in the faces of creatures. “For me, it's about displaying charisma and personality in a face,” thus Bastian. With her work she combines her fascination for art and biology, resulting in high quality realistic paintings.
